| I can hear you
saying, “That sounds far too easy. Just ask for the job I
want and I can have it?” Yes, it really is that easy. The
hard part is believing that it is that easy..
You’ve probably been taught to believe that
job hunting is hard and you should expect a long, difficult and
problem-filled struggle. Well, if that’s what you believe,
then that’s how your job hunt will be. But it really doesn’t
have to be that way, and this article will explain why.
You’ve probably read lots of articles and
books on job hunting and found that despite the confusing and often
conflicting advice, they all say pretty much the same thing:
* Looking for work is a full time job and no
one ever said it was easy.
* You have to beat your competition to a pulp
with a “killer” resume and cover letter or you won’t
stand a chance of standing out from the pack.
* Your first hurdle is getting past a resume
screener in Human Resources, whose sole function is to weed you
out.
* Be ready to “sell yourself” and
answer all the questions right, even the weird ones.
* Expect to face a lot of rejection before
you land something decent. After all, it’s tough out there,
especially if you’re over 40, been laid off or out of work
a long time, don’t have a degree, connections, training
or experience, and/or are a veteran, an un-retired retiree or
a stay at home parent coming back into the workforce.
Being between jobs is bad enough because it’s
natural to be filled with fear, doubt and confusion for a while
when you’re facing the unknown, but the Traditional System
of job hunting adds insecurity, unworthiness and loneliness to the
mix.
Have you had enough of not getting hired? Are
you ready for an entirely different approach that actually works?
Well, it’s very simple – all you have to do is change
the way you think about yourself as a job seeker, the job search
process and the people you will meet along the way.
But first, I am going to share with you something
so simple yet so powerful that it may change your life. It is an
ancient principle that has been written about, taught and –
not surprisingly – suppressed for thousands of years. When
you learn what it is and how it works, you can use it to bring that
dream job – and anything else you desire – into your
life easily and virtually effortlessly.
I have used it since I was 17 to get into the
college of my choice, when I didn’t have the grades or SAT
scores, didn’t know anyone on the inside, didn’t have
a grant or scholarship, there was enormous competition from all
Baby Boomers going to college and this was a small private liberal
arts university that could pick anyone they wanted. And despite
all that, they picked me.
And I’ve been using it for the past 35 years
to get every job I ever wanted easily and effortlessly, even when
I didn't have the qualifications, didn't have any experience, didn't
know anyone on the inside, there was enormous competition and the
economy was either in the tank or getting there.
“It” is the Law of Attraction (LAO),
which you may have heard about as “The Secret.” www.thesecret.tv.
The LOA is a Universal Law, just like gravity, soil and electricity,
and like all the other Universal Laws, this is what we know about
it:
- It only does one thing and it does it
exactly the same way for everyone all the time.
- It is totally impersonal, has no feelings,
doesn’t have opinions, pass judgment or play favorites.
- It is always “on.” You can’t
turn it on or off, get away from it or affect it in any way.
- It operates with mechanical regularity,
is totally predictable and absolutely infallible.
- We know that it works, but we don’t
know how it works.
So what does this mean to you? It means that you
are creating your own reality right now through your thoughts and
beliefs (even your subconscious or “hidden” beliefs).
In other words, when you focus on what a tough time you’re
having finding a new job, you’re having a tough time finding
a new job simply because you’re focusing on what a tough time
you’re having finding a new job!
You can use the Law of Attraction to bring you
what you want, instead of more of what you don’t want. Begin
attracting your dream job by “asking” for it the right
way by intentionally changing your negative thoughts and statements
to positive ones, like this:
Negative Affirmation: I’d
love to do that, but I can’t because _____________.
Positive Affirmation:
I’d love to do that, and there is no reason I can’t.
Negative Affirmation: No one
returns my calls.
Positive Affirmation:
Since I want this job, it’s up to me to call them.
Negative Affirmation: There
are no decent jobs in my field and I don’t want to move.
Positive Affirmation:
There is plenty of opportunity for me in my field right here in
my area. I probably haven’t been looking for them in the
right places.
Negative Affirmation: There’s
just too much competition.
Positive Affirmation:
There is more than enough work for everyone who wants to work,
and my perfect job is waiting for me to claim it.
Negative Affirmation: I hate
being interrogated in interviews.
Positive Affirmation:
My interviews are pleasant conversations with my peers and whether
or not we end up working together, it’s always nice to meet
someone new.
Negative Affirmation: Looking
for work is a full-time job, and no one ever said it was easy.
Positive Affirmation:
Everything I do brings me closer to my right employment, and I
look forward to each new day with joy, knowing that my dream job
is mine now and is already on its way to me. And so it is!
Now, create a picture of yourself in your new
job and capture the feeling of being there. Doesn’t it feel
great? Hold on to the feeling of having and continue changing your
negative thoughts to positive ones. This should make you feel great
and in control of your life, which, by the way, you are.
Now, start acting as if you had that job by doing
the things someone with that job would do – read the trade
magazines, do freelance work, take classes, go shopping for the
clothes you’ll be wearing, make up a business card with your
new title, read business and trade publications to keep up with
what’s going on and who’s doing what, and go meet your
peers at trade groups and industry events.
Then, follow your instinct and reach out to companies
most likely to need you – not as a job seeker, but rather
as a problem solver. Do your homework on these companies and learn
something about their problems, challenges and opportunities.
If you’ve held the vision of knowing what
you want and embraced the “being-ness” of having it
(even before you’re hired), you won’t have to do much
of anything because the Law of Attraction will create demonstrations
of your belief that you already have a job like this.
And before you know it, you will!
